
San Diego, CA (March 20, 2019) – A man from Woodstock, Georgia died after riding an electric scooter into a tree in the downtown San Diego area.
The man riding the scooter was 53-year-old Christopher Conti from Woodstock, Georgia on March 13 around 10:00 p.m.
He lost control when he was making a left turn at an intersection. After he lost control, he hit a tree he became unconscious.
Officials said the crash left him with severe head injuries. San Diego paramedics took him to the hospital, but Conti died of his injuries two days later.
Conti was in San Diego for business. He was the owner of Innovative Fitness Solutions in Kennesaw, Georgia and was attending a fitness conference in San Diego.
Friends and family posted about Conti online and said he was “a very special person” and “a joy to be around.”Police believe this is the first death involving an electric scooter in San Diego. Closer to Woodstock, Atlanta is coming up with solutions to track injuries on scooters. This might help determine if better safety requirements are needed.
