Pickup Going the Wrong Way Crashes Into Semi

San Diego – A man is facing DUI charges for driving the wrong way on a California freeway and crashing into a semi-truck.

The accident was early Monday morning and officers are saying it’s a miracle no one was killed in this accident.

Just after 1:00 a.m. the California Highway Patrol got reports of a man traveling northbound in southbound lanes of Interstate 15. The driver was north of State Route 76 by Lilac Road.

Officers were unable to respond before the driver hit a semi-truck. The driver of the semi did his best to swerve out of the way of the pickup but was unable to avoid it.

The semi did a partial jackknife causing fuel to spill and a dangerous mess across the freeway.

Neither driver has serious injuries. Police are charging the driver of the pickup with suspicion of a DUI.

Wrong-way drivers often decide to drive in the fast lane. CHP suggests staying out of the fast lane late at night.
