Man Killed in Crash Along Del Lago Boulevard

A man was killed in an accident involving an elderly driver in the afternoon on Monday, September 2nd, along Del Lago Boulevard.

According to California Highway Patrol and Escondido police, an 81-year-old man was driving south on Interstate 15 at the HOX off-ramp at or near freeway speed when he failed to stop at a traffic signal. His Jaguar XK6 then broadsided a Toyota Avalon.

The passenger side of the Toyota was badly damaged and its passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The elderly man and his 41-year-old passenger were taken to the hospital in serious condition. The driver of the toyota was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The name and age of the deceased passenger have not been released, and it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, which is still under investigation.
