ESCONDIDO – A pedestrian woman died following a hit-and-run crash early Wednesday on a North County Freeway.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., a caller to 911 reported the victim. She was lying on the right-hand shoulder of westbound State Route 78 near Rock Springs Road in Escondido.

California Highway Patrol responded to the incident where medics pronounced the victim dead on the scene. freeway.

They continue to investigate the accident. The identity of the victim, a 26-year-old woman from Escondido, has not been released.
